Project: Design and product development of concept for presentation to potential investors.

Details: The client had a new concept for a modular chip-stacking device that would allow casinos to quickly collect and stack chips to expedite clearing of gaming tables. Each unit had 5 silos capable of storing exactly 100 chips.

Research revealed that additional features were required to create a marketable product:

  • Locking mechanism to prevent accidental opening of units.
  • Customization options for clients to add their own logo and identity.
  • Self-sorting design in which unit naturally guided chips into silos.
  • Overflow slots allowing excess chips to slide out.

All features were incorporated into a simple core/cavity design for plastic injection moulding. Design was modified and adjusted through a series of first run trial with aluminum moulds in China.
